Krav Maga class trial

I checked out a Krav Maga
class the other day. It is an Israeli martial arts designed for pure self defense.
There is no sport component for it. I felt like most of it is repeat stuff for me, I have many years of TKD and
Brazilian Jiujitsu
, mixed in with a little Wing Chun and self defense techniques learned from seminars.
I should give it another few classes before I decide it is for me or not. I will say that they take self defense seriously. You can see the bruised on my arm from blocks I was doing.

Pull Ups and then tabata

A few days ago added regular pull ups to do, however I am doing them with extra weight being held by my feet/ankles.
Today I did 3 sets of pull ups with 30 lbs added and then did the lean back pull done tabata protocol

Using a "perfect pull up" pull up bar makes doing Tabata style pulls/rows possible.

Performed crunches in the truck while driving to a home inspection. Certainly not full crunches, I tightened my
abs for the length of time needed to do a crunch and repeated.

Todays Tabata
The tabata workout for today involved jump squats. First two rounds felt easy...then fatigue crept in. The lactic acid built up and slowed me down. Afterwards I noticed that I seem to be recovering quicker after the sets are completed. Fast results already!
The Gym Boss timer definitely makes the workout "easier" because the hassle of keeping track of time is removed.

Tabata
Tabata type workouts are named after Izumi Tabata, a japanese scientist who looked for a training method for their speed skating team. The type of workout is called Tabata or the Tabata Method. With this workout the unique combination of power and endurance is achieved in a workout that does not take lots of time in the gym.
This is ideal especially for adults who want to stay in shape however do not have all the time in the world to spend in a gym.
Basically you workout at maximum effort for 20 seconds then take a 10 second rest, repeat the 20 seconds of maximum effort immediately after the rest. Do this for a total of eight times and your workout is done in 4 minutes.
The timing is key and the easy way to keep track is with a timer designed to do this.
I own the one imaged below and love it. I have mine programmed to both vibrate and to beep at each change in the workout.

snow storm and fitness
With the snow storm it is difficult to make it to a gym to workout. This is another reason why having a routine that you can do in the safety of you own home is important. No need to travel in the cold weather, icy roads and less time spent away from your family.

Circuit Training
Circuit training is great way to get into shape. With a good circuit routine a person can exercise their entire body in a short amount of time. Not only will the muscles get a workout but the cardio system will also be trained.
I used a circuit to prepare for brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments. The one I used was tough and definitly was for the well trained adn conditioned. I am now doing a lighter version of the exercise circuit.
If you do not do any circuit training currently I recommend that you ad it.
I am planning on recording the circuit and offering it pro bono to everyone. So subsribe to this blog to be notified when it is ging given away.

Variety is Key
One key factor in fitness success is you ability to exercise consistently. This is not to say that you should always do the same exercise all the time. But that you should exercise consistently and that the exercise you do can vary. Run one day, lift the next. Circuit training on Monday and then Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ) the Wednesday. The variety will greatly help reduce the odds of your getting bored and quit exercising.
